Purified human low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from STEMCELL Technologies is supplied as a 5 mg lyophilized preparation in a sealed vial, intended for research use only in lipid metabolism and cardiovascular research. The reagent is used to reconstitute working stocks for cell culture models of macrophage foam cell formation, studies of LDL receptor-mediated endocytosis, and investigations of cholesterol uptake, efflux, and intracellular trafficking pathways. Researchers commonly employ this material to load cultured hepatocytes, macrophages, or vascular smooth muscle cells with native lipoprotein particles, supporting downstream western blot analysis of receptor expression, flow cytometry-based uptake assays, and lipid accumulation staining protocols. Vials are stored frozen at -20 °C and protected from light to preserve particle integrity and apolipoprotein B-100 conformation. Each vial provides sufficient material for multiple experimental setups; aliquoting upon first thaw is recommended to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles and maintain reproducible assay performance.
