Description

Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant human protein corresponds to Serpin A12, a glycoprotein also known as vaspin (alternative names: OL-64 and Vaspin) that belongs to the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) family. The construct is expressed in HEK293 cells and covers amino acids Leu21–Lys414 of accession NP_776249.1, with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus. The product is presented as a lyophilized solid prepared from sterile PBS, pH 7.4, with trehalose (5%), mannitol (5%), and 0.01% TWEEN® 80 added as protectants before lyophilization.

Serpin A12 is described as an adipokine expressed predominantly in visceral adipose tissue and at significantly higher amounts in obese individuals. It is reported to carry out insulin-sensitizing functions, including the regulation of kallikrein 7 (KLK7), an insulin-inhibiting protease, and is mainly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and glucose metabolism. The protein is also reported to protect against high fat-induced bone loss. It has a predicted molecular mass of 46.5 kDa and an apparent molecular mass of 50–55 kDa due to glycosylation, with a purity of ≥ 94% as assessed by SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions and Coomassie Blue staining, and an endotoxin level of ≤ 1 EU/μg protein by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The product is intended for research use only, is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or the GHS, and is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored at -20 to -80 °C.
