VEGF-D is known to promote lymphangiogenesis, endothelial cell growth and survival, and to affect blood vessel permeability. The biological activity of Human Recombinant VEGF-D is verified by its ability to promote the proliferation of HUVECs, with cell proliferation quantified using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which proliferation is at 50% of maximum, and in the cited example is less than 1000 ng/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 13.1 kDa and resolves on SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions when visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.
