Hu Recom VEGF-C, 50 µg

VEGF-C is a member of the VEGF/platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family of proteins, acting as a potent angiogenic factor that promotes lymphangiogenesis, endothelial cell growth and survival, and can affect blood vessel permeability. The protein is expressed in a range of tissues but not in peripheral blood lymphocytes, and forms a non-covalent, cell surface-associated, disulfide-linked homodimer that can bind and activate VEGF receptors 2 (VEGFR-2 [Flk1]) and 3 (VEGFR-3 [Flt4]). Interaction with VEGFR-2 drives physiological and intratumoral neoangiogenesis and vessel sprouting, whereas interaction with VEGFR-3 is critical for lymphangiogenesis. Overexpression of VEGF-C in tumor cells has been shown to result in enhanced lymph flow and increased metastasis to regional lymph nodes.

This Human Recombinant VEGF-C from STEMCELL Technologies is supplied as a lyophilized solid following dialysis against phosphate-buffered saline and is intended for use as a laboratory reagent. The protein is expressed in HEK 293 cells and has a predicted molecular mass of 13.2 kDa. Purity is ≥ 95%, and the endotoxin level is ≤ 0.2 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. Biological activity is ≥ 2.0 x 10^3 units/mg, with an EC50 of ≤ 500 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Cross-reactivity is reported to be species-specific.

For preparation, centrifuge the vial before opening and reconstitute in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting the solution down the sides of the vial; do not vortex. As a general guide, do not store at 2 - 8°C for more than 1 week or at -20°C for more than 3 months, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Long-term storage should be at -80°C, and the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt.
