This recombinant human growth factor from STEMCELL Technologies is supplied as a powder and is intended for research use, including the differentiation of mouse ES and iPS cells to endothelial lineages. According to the manufacturer, VEGF plays an important role in neurogenesis both in vitro and in vivo. Biological activity has been demonstrated by the ability of the protein to promote the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), as measured by a fluorometric assay; the effective concentration (EC50) at which proliferation reaches 50% of maximum is 1.7 ng/mL.

The product has a predicted molecular mass of 38.2 kDa by non-reducing SDS-PAGE, as visualized by Coomassie Blue staining after resolving 4 μg of the protein under reducing and non-reducing conditions.
