Hu Recom VEGF-165, 100 µg

A heparin-binding homodimeric glycoprotein involved in embryonic vasculogenesis and angiogenesis, this Human Recombinant VEGF-165 is supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as a lyophilized laboratory reagent. The protein binds to VEGFR-1 (R1) and VEGFR-2 (R2) and activates the Raf/MEK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. It plays an important role in neurogenesis both in vitro and in vivo, exerts neurotrophic effects on neurons of the central nervous system, and promotes the growth and survival of dopaminergic neurons and astrocytes. Additional reported activities include supporting the growth and survival of vascular endothelial cells, monocyte chemotaxis, and colony formation by granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells.

The protein is produced in P. pastoris with a predicted molecular mass of 38.2 kDa as assessed by non-reducing SDS-PAGE and shows cross-reactivity against mouse and rat. Purity is ≥ 95%, and the formulation is lyophilized after dialysis against HEPES containing sodium chloride at pH 7.0. The specific activity is ≥ 2 x 10^5 units/mg, with an EC50 ≤ 5 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using HUVECs; an example EC50 of 1.7 ng/mL has been reported. Endotoxin levels are ≤ 0.2 EU/μg protein, measured by kinetic LAL analysis.

The lyophilized product is stored at -80°C and is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. The vial should be centrifuged before opening and the product resuspended in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting down the sides of the vial, without vortexing. Reconstituted product can be stored at 2 - 8°C for up to 1 month or at -20°C to -80°C for up to 6 months, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The product is intended for research use only.
