Biological activity was tested by the ability of the protein to promote the proliferation of MO7e cells, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum; in the reported example the EC50 is 10.2 ng/mL. Stated research applications include serum-free culture supplementation for the expansion of human CD34+ hematopoietic cells, expansion and differentiation of human granulocytes, expansion of human megakaryocytes, and expansion of human hematopoietic cells.
