The manufacturer describes TNF-beta as a protein involved in autoimmune disorders, lymph node development and the inflammatory demyelination process. Biological activity of the recombinant preparation is assessed by its ability to inhibit growth of mouse L929 cells in the presence of actinomycin D, with cell growth measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum; in the reported assay the EC50 is less than 0.004 ng/mL. Purity is evaluated by resolving 2 μg of the protein with SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions and visualizing with Coomassie Blue staining. The material is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
