Hu Recom TGF-beta 1, 500 µg

A lyophilized recombinant human growth factor supplied by STEMCELL Technologies is formulated from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid and trehalose, and is expressed in CHO cells. Also known as Cartilage-inducing factor, Differentiation inhibiting factor, LAP, Latency-associated peptide, TGFB1, TGF-beta-1, and Transforming growth factor β 1, the protein carries accession number P01137 and has a predicted molecular mass of 12.8 kDa as a monomer and 25.6 kDa as a dimer.

The protein binds serine-threonine kinase type I and II receptors and signals through SMAD2/3, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, and metabolism. During human embryogenesis it is expressed by endothelial and hematopoietic tissues as an endogenous autocrine growth regulator. Together with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) it supports the culture of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. It is produced in latent form by many blood cells, is present in high amounts in platelets and bones, and once activated contributes to immune homeostasis by modulating B cell responses and mediating immunosuppressive effects on T cells and neutrophils.

Purity is ≥ 95% (assessed by SDS-PAGE with Coomassie Blue staining). Biological activity is determined by inhibition of IL-4-induced HT-2 cell proliferation, with an EC50 of ≤ 0.5 ng/mL and a specific activity of approximately 2.151 x 10^4 IU/µg against the WHO International Standard (NIBSC code: 89/514). Endotoxin level is ≤ 0.1 EU/µg protein by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. Reconstitute the lyophilized powder in 10 mM hydrochloric acid to at least 0.1 mg/mL without vortexing, and store at -20°C to -80°C; it remains stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt.
