Hu Recom TGF-alpha, 50 µg

STEMCELL Technologies Human Recombinant TGF-alpha is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family that is expressed in normal epithelial cells, monocytes, macrophages, brain cells, keratinocytes, and cancer cells. The cytokine binds the EGF receptor (EGFR) and activates tyrosine kinase signaling, driving proliferation and differentiation in epidermal and epithelial cells. TGF-alpha is not structurally or genetically related to TGF-beta, and the two ligands act through different signaling pathways. In vitro, TGF-alpha was shown to stimulate anchorage-independent growth (Singh & Coffey, 2014).

Supplied as a lyophilized preparation after dialysis against phosphate-buffered saline, this recombinant protein is produced in E. coli. It has a predicted molecular mass of 5.6 kDa and Accession Number P01135. The specific activity is at least 5.0 x 10^6 units/mg with an EC50 of 0.2 ng/mL or less, as determined by a cell proliferation assay using BALB/c 3T3 cells. Purity is at least 95%, and the endotoxin level is no more than 0.2 EU per microgram of protein, as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. Alternative names include ETGF, Sarcoma growth factor, TGF, TGF-type I, and Transforming growth factor-alpha.

For preparation, centrifuge the vial before opening and reconstitute in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL. Store at -80 degrees Celsius; the product is stable for 12 months from the date of receipt. According to the manufacturer, this product is designed for use in research areas including the expansion and differentiation of human neural stem and progenitor cells, and the establishment and maintenance of mouse intestinal organoids.
