STEMCELL Technologies Human Recombinant SCF (Stem Cell Factor), also known as Kit ligand, Mast cell growth factor, or Steel factor, is produced in E. coli and manufactured to be animal component-free. The lyophilized protein is supplied as a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing sodium phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 7.5, and is intended for research use only. SCF is an early-acting cytokine that plays a pivotal role in the regulation of embryonic and adult hematopoiesis, promoting cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, and functional activation of cells at multiple levels of the hematopoietic hierarchy. It is also a primary growth and activation factor for mast cells and eosinophils. SCF acts by binding to the c-Kit tyrosine kinase receptor (CD117), activating the PI3K, JAK/STAT, and MAPK signaling pathways.

The product has a predicted molecular mass of 18.6 kDa and is ≥ 95% pure. The specific activity is ≥ 6.7 x 10^4 units/mg, as determined by a cell proliferation assay using TF-1 cells, with an EC50 ≤ 15 ng/mL. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The protein is weakly active on mouse cells. For preparation, the vial should be centrifuged before opening and reconstituted in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL, without vortexing.

STEMCELL Technologies recommends storage at -20°C to -80°C; the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. After reconstitution, optional dilution in concentrated bovine serum albumin (BSA) to a final BSA concentration of 0.1% is suggested if the product will not be used immediately. As a general guide, do not store at 2 - 8°C for more than 1 month or at -20°C to -80°C for more than 3 months, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
