STEMCELL Technologies offers Human Recombinant NT-4 (Neurotrophin-4), a recombinant cytokine intended for neuroscience research. NT-4 acts as a survival factor for certain populations of sensory neurons and has also been shown to sensitize cortical neurons to cell death.

Biological activity is assessed by the ability of the protein to promote proliferation of a neuroblastoma cell line stably expressing TrkB (BR6), with cell proliferation measured using a colorimetric assay. The EC50 in a representative assay was 5.6 ng/mL. SDS-PAGE analysis under reducing and non-reducing conditions followed by Coomassie Blue staining showed that the protein is a homodimer of 14 kDa subunits with a predicted total molecular mass of 28.1 kDa.
