Hu Recom M-CSF, 10 µg

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this E. coli-expressed human recombinant macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) for research applications. M-CSF is a homodimeric glycoprotein that regulates proliferation and differentiation of myeloid hematopoietic progenitor cells into mononuclear phagocytic lineages, including monocytes, macrophages, and osteoclasts. The cytokine signals through the CSF-1R receptor tyrosine kinase, encoded by the c-fms proto-oncogene, and activates the MAPK, PI3K, and PLCγ pathways.

According to the product information sheet, the protein is lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing sodium phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 8. The predicted molecular mass is 18.5 kDa for the monomer and 37.1 kDa for the homodimer, and reported purity is ≥ 95%. Activity is determined by a cell proliferation assay using NFS-60 cells, with an EC50 of ≤ 10 ng/mL and a specific activity of approximately 1.02 x 10^5 IU/µg, calibrated against the WHO International Standard for human recombinant M-CSF. Endotoxin level, measured by kinetic LAL analysis, is ≤ 1 EU/µg protein. In a representative assay the EC50 ranged from 0.9 to 1.4 ng/mL. The product is intended for research use only and is not for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses.

The safety data sheet for the product states that it is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and is supplied as a solid. STEMCELL Technologies recommends storage at -20 to -80°C; the lyophilized product is stable for 12 months from the date of receipt. Vials should be centrifuged before opening and reconstituted in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL without vortexing.
