Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) plays a role in implantation by regulating proliferation, invasion, and differentiation of trophoblast following the blastocyst attachment. The biological activity of Human Recombinant LIF was tested by its ability to promote the proliferation of TF-1 cells, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50, defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum, is 0.09 ng/mL.

2 μg of Human Recombinant LIF was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining; the protein has a predicted molecular mass of 19.7 kDa. According to the safety data sheet, the product is a solid and is not considered hazardous by the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) and is not a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). No special protective equipment is required under normal use conditions.
