STEMCELL Technologies recombinant human IL-9 is a purified recombinant protein supplied for research applications that include immune cell culture and signaling and functional assays involving IL-9-responsive cells. According to the manufacturer, IL-9 functions as an autocrine growth and activation factor for Th17 cells, Tregs, and mast cells.

Biological activity of Human Recombinant IL-9 is tested by its ability to promote the proliferation of MO7e cells, measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum; in the example shown, the EC50 is less than 1 ng/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 25 – 40 kDa, and 2 μg of Human Recombinant IL-9 has been resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (−) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.

The product is described as fitting into workflow stages such as serum-free and xeno-free medium for the expansion of T cells, immunomagnetic negative isolation of untouched human T cells, and immunomagnetic negative isolation of untouched human naïve CD4+ T cells. For storage, the protein should be kept at −20 °C or colder and aliquoted to prevent multiple freeze–thaw cycles, then reconstituted with a sterile solvent and handled under aseptic conditions.
