Hu Recom IL-6, ACF, 20 µg

A recombinant human cytokine from STEMCELL Technologies, this animal component-free preparation of Interleukin-6 — also referenced as B cell differentiation factor, BSF-2, and IFN-β2 — is supplied as a powder and is intended for use as a laboratory reagent. IL-6 stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of T cells, supports the formation of osteoclasts, and affects hepatocytes, cardiomyocytes, and macrophages.

Biological activity is demonstrated by the ability of the cytokine to promote proliferation of B9 cells, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. In the reported example, the EC50 — defined as the effective concentration at which proliferation reaches 50% of maximum — is 3.31 pg/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 21 kDa, with 1 μg resolved on SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (−) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.
