Hu Recom IL-6, ACF, 1000 µg

The recombinant human cytokine Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is supplied by STEMCELL Technologies in an ACF formulation intended for use as a laboratory reagent. IL-6 stimulates proliferation and differentiation of T cells, supports formation of osteoclasts, and affects hepatocytes, cardiomyocytes, and macrophages. Alternative designations listed for the cytokine include B cell differentiation factor, BSF-2, IFN-β2, and Interleukin-6.

Biological activity is determined by the ability of the preparation to promote proliferation of B9 cells, measured using a fluorometric assay. The EC50 — the effective concentration at which proliferation reaches 50% of maximum — is reported as 3.31 pg/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 21 kDa, and 1 μg of the product has been resolved by SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions and visualised by Coomassie Blue staining.

The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet identifies the material as a solid powder. It is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). It is stable under normal conditions, requires no special protective equipment for normal handling, and is not regulated for transport by DOT, TDG, MEX, ICAO, IATA, IMDG, RID, ADR, or ADN. The supplier recommends storing the product in accordance with the Product Information Sheet (PIS) and handling it using good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
