Hu Recom IL-6, 20 µg

A lyophilized preparation of recombinant human Interleukin-6 (IL-6) supplied by STEMCELL Technologies. IL-6 is described as a pleiotropic growth factor with roles in immune regulation, hematopoiesis, and oncogenesis, and is naturally produced by cell types including T cells, B cells, monocytes and macrophages, fibroblasts, hepatocytes, vascular endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines.

The protein signals through a cell surface type I cytokine receptor complex consisting of the ligand-binding IL-6Rα (CD126) and the signal-transducing gp130 subunits, inducing activation of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. On its own or in combination with factors such as IL-2 and interferon-γ, IL-6 stimulates the proliferation of B cells, T cells, and hybridoma cells, while in combination with cytokines such as IL-3, GM-CSF, and SCF it has been shown to promote hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation in vitro.

Produced in E. coli, the recombinant protein has a predicted molecular mass of 21 kDa and a purity of ≥ 97%. The specific activity is ≥ 4 x 10^7 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 25 pg/mL), as determined by a cell proliferation assay using B9 cells, with a representative EC50 of 3.31 pg/mL reported. Endotoxin level is ≤ 0.1 EU/µg protein, measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The product is lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing sodium phosphate at pH 7.5 and should be stored at -20 to -80°C, where it remains stable for 12 months from the date of receipt.
