Hu Recom IL-6, 100 µg

A pleiotropic growth factor from STEMCELL Technologies, Human Recombinant IL-6 (Interleukin-6) is expressed in E. coli and presented as a lyophilized powder. The recombinant protein is formulated in a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing sodium phosphate at pH 7.5 and has a predicted molecular mass of 21 kDa. It reaches a purity of ≥ 97%, with endotoxin levels ≤ 0.1 EU/µg protein as determined by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis.

IL-6 is produced by T cells, B cells, monocytes, macrophages, fibroblasts, hepatocytes, vascular endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines. It signals through a type I cytokine receptor complex made up of the ligand-binding IL-6α (CD126) and the signal-transducing gp130 subunits, activating the JAK/STAT pathway. On its own or with factors such as IL-2 and interferon-γ, IL-6 stimulates the proliferation of B cells, T cells, and hybridoma cells; combined with IL-3, GM-CSF, and SCF, it supports hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation in vitro. Specific activity is ≥ 4 x 10^7 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 25 pg/mL), determined by a B9 cell proliferation assay.
