A laboratory reagent from STEMCELL Technologies, supplied as a solid powder for research use. The product is a recombinant human interleukin-3 (IL-3) expressed in E. coli, intended to support studies in hematopoietic cell biology.

According to the manufacturer, IL-3 promotes the survival and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and lineage-committed progenitors and their differentiation into mature cells. Biological activity is tested by the ability to promote proliferation of TF-1 cells, with cell proliferation measured after 72 hours of culture using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum; the example EC50 is 0.244 ng/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 15.2 kDa and has been visualized by Coomassie Blue staining following SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions.

Per the manufacturer's safety data sheet, the material is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and is not considered hazardous by the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). It is chemically stable under normal conditions, and storage should be carried out in accordance with information listed on the Product Information Sheet (PIS).
