A laboratory reagent from STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant human preparation corresponds to Interleukin-18 binding protein isoform a (IL-18 BPa), the most-expressed isoform in humans, generated by alternative splicing of the IL-18 BP mRNA. The protein is a glycoprotein containing a single C2-type IgG domain. IL-18 BPa acts as an inhibitor of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-18, preventing IL-18 from binding to its receptor and thereby suppressing IL-18-induced IFN-gamma production; this binding is primarily attributed to the Ig domain.
