Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as an animal component-free recombinant human cytokine, this lyophilized product is Interleukin-15 (IL-15) expressed in E. coli. IL-15 is a four-alpha-helix bundle cytokine with many properties similar to IL-2. It signals through a heterotrimeric receptor composed of IL-15Rα together with IL-2/15Rβ (CD122) and the common gamma chain (CD132), activating JAK/STAT and PI3K pathways. IL-15 supports the survival and proliferation of naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, promotes homeostasis of memory T cells, and promotes survival and differentiation of NK cells as well as regulating their cytolytic activity.

According to the product specification, the predicted molecular mass is 12.9 kDa and purity is ≥ 97%. Specific activity is ≥ 1 x 10^6 units/mg as determined by a CTLL-2 cell proliferation assay, with an EC50 ≤ 1 ng/mL. Endotoxin level, measured by kinetic LAL analysis, is ≤ 0.1 EU/μg protein. The product is formulated lyophilized from a sterile-filtered solution containing sodium bicarbonate at pH 8.5 and should be stored at -20 to -80°C, remaining stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.
