From STEMCELL Technologies, Human Recombinant IL-13 is a research-grade cytokine supplied as a lyophilized powder. Interleukin-13 (IL-13) plays a role in type 2 immune responses and is expressed by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells and group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s). It signals through a receptor composed of IL-4Rα paired with IL-13Rα1 or IL-13Rα2, activating the JAK/STAT and IRS-1/IRS-2 pathways.

The protein is a variant of wild-type human IL-13, produced in E. coli with a predicted molecular mass of 12.6 kDa. Alternative names include Interleukin13 and NC30. Specific activity is ≥ 2 x 10^5 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 5 ng/mL), determined by a TF-1 cell proliferation assay, with purity ≥ 95%. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The product is lyophilized from a sterile-filtered solution containing sodium citrate at pH 3.

In published research, IL-13 has been associated with resistance to extracellular helminth parasites through regulation of gastrointestinal parasite expulsion, as well as with airway hyperresponsiveness, allergic inflammation, tissue remodeling, tumor cell growth, and fibrosis. The safety data sheet classifies this material as not a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
