STEMCELL Technologies offers Human Recombinant IL-11. The cytokine induces the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocytic progenitors, supports the maturation of megakaryocytes, and promotes the production of platelets.

Biological activity was determined by the ability of the recombinant protein to promote proliferation of TF-1 cells, measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum. In the reported assay the EC50 is 1.68 ng/mL.

Purity was examined by resolving 1 μg of the protein with SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining. The recombinant IL-11 has a predicted molecular mass of 19.3 kDa and migrates with an apparent molecular mass of 23 kDa.
