The cytokine is described as a factor that recruits infiltrating cells to a site of injury during necrosis and that plays an important role during processes of sterile inflammation.

The biological activity of Human Recombinant IL-1 alpha was tested by its ability to promote the proliferation of D10S cells. Cell proliferation was measured after 42 hours using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum. The EC50 in the cited example is 0.68 pg/mL. For characterization, 1 μg of the protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.

The product is supplied as a solid powder and is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). It is reported to be stable under normal conditions, and containers should be kept tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
