STEMCELL Technologies supplies a research-grade recombinant preparation of Insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF-II), a polypeptide belonging to the family of insulin-like growth factors that share molecular structure with proinsulin. The protein binds the IGF-I receptor and activates signaling through the MAPK and PI3K pathways, influencing growth, differentiation, and survival of cells across various tissues during embryonic development. It also stimulates proliferation and migration of primary lymphatic endothelial cells and induces lymphangiogenesis. Alternative names include Insulin-like growth factor II, Insulin-like growth factor type 2, Somatomedin A, and T3M-11-derived growth factor.

The product is expressed in E. coli and supplied lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid, with a predicted molecular mass of 7.5 kDa and a purity of ≥ 95%. Specific activity is ≥ 1.7 x 10^5 units/mg, with an EC50 ≤ 6 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using MCF-7 cells. Endotoxin level is ≤ 0.1 EU/μg protein, measured by kinetic LAL analysis.
