Description
Manufactured by STEMCELL Technologies, this animal component-free recombinant protein is a polypeptide belonging to the insulin-like growth factor family. It binds to the IGF-I receptor and acts as a potent activator of the PI3K/AKT pathway, while also activating ERK1/2 signaling. The protein is required for embryonic development and is produced mainly in the liver in response to a hepatocyte growth hormone.
Produced in E. coli and supplied as a lyophilized powder from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid, the product shows a purity of ≥ 95%. Its biological activity is confirmed by a cell proliferation assay using MCF-7 cells, with an EC50 of ≤ 1.5 ng/mL and a specific activity of ≥ 6.7 x 10^5 units/mg. The endotoxin level is ≤ 0.1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis.
In the absence of insulin, IGF-I is necessary for the maintenance of human pluripotent stem cells (Wang et al., 2007). Together with IL-3, it stimulates differentiation and proliferation of myeloid cells and has been shown to regulate lymphopoiesis by stimulating proliferation and differentiation of T and B cells in lymphoid organs (Heemskerk et al., 1999). For reconstitution, the product should be dissolved in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL without vortexing, and stored at -20 to -80°C, where it remains stable for 12 months from the date of receipt. This product is for research use only.
