Description

Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), also known as type II interferon (Accession Number P01579), is a cytokine produced by T and NK cells, and in smaller amounts by dendritic cells and macrophages. Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this animal component-free recombinant human IFN-γ is expressed in E. coli and lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing sodium phosphate, trehalose, mannitol, and TWEEN® 80 at pH 6.5. The predicted molecular mass is 16.9 kDa and the product is supplied at ≥ 95% purity.

Specific activity is ≥ 3.3 x 10^6 units/mg (≤ 0.3 ng/mL), as determined by the ability to induce cytotoxicity of HT-29 cells. Endotoxin levels are ≤ 0.1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. IFN-γ signals through the JAK/STAT pathway following receptor binding and contributes to diverse immunological functions, including stimulation of antimicrobial and anti-tumor activity in macrophages, NK cells, and neutrophils, upregulation of MHC class I and II in dendritic cells and mononuclear phagocytes, promotion of B cell survival and differentiation, and skewing toward Th1 versus Th2 cell development.

The lyophilized product should be stored at -20 to -80°C and is stable for 12 months from date of receipt when stored as supplied. For research use only.
