STEMCELL Technologies supplies this 5 ug vial of recombinant human interferon-beta, a type I interferon cytokine that signals through the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex and activates the JAK/STAT cascade to drive transcription of interferon-stimulated genes. Researchers use the protein to model antiviral defense, polarize immune-cell populations, and dissect interferon-driven transcriptional programs in stem-cell and primary-culture workflows.

The product is delivered in a single-use vial and is typically reconstituted in sterile PBS or culture-grade water with carrier protein, then aliquoted and stored at -20 degrees C to preserve biological activity across repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Potency is calibrated by antiviral cytopathic-effect assay, so working concentrations are commonly reported in international units per mL against an accepted reference standard.

Working applications include pre-treatment of macrophages, dendritic cells, fibroblasts, or glial cultures prior to viral challenge; supplementation of neural co-culture systems used in multiple-sclerosis-relevant modeling; and use as a positive control in qPCR, western blot, or flow cytometry assays that read out ISG induction such as MxA, OAS1, or STAT1 phosphorylation.
