Description

A laboratory reagent supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this preparation of Human Recombinant IFN-alpha 2B is provided as a powder for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic applications unless otherwise stated. The manufacturer's quality management system is certified to ISO 13485.

IFN-alpha is described as a cytokine that initiates antiviral responses, stimulates cytotoxic T and NK cell function, and inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells. Biological activity is demonstrated with A549 cells exposed to the encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus in a cytopathic effect (CPE) assay, where cell survival is measured using a fluorometric assay method. In the cited example the EC50 is 1.0 pg/mL. SDS-PAGE analysis under reducing and non-reducing conditions visualized by Coomassie Blue staining shows a predicted molecular mass of 19.4 kDa. The manufacturer highlights this cytokine as part of research workflows such as immunomagnetic negative selection of untouched human pDCs from PBMCs.

According to the Safety Data Sheet, the material is a solid powder and is not classified as hazardous under GHS or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). It is chemically stable under normal conditions, with no hazardous reactions expected under normal processing. Recommended storage is in tightly closed containers kept in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place. The product is not regulated for transport by DOT, TDG, MEX, ICAO, IATA, IMDG, RID, or ADR.
