Description

A human recombinant growth factor from STEMCELL Technologies, Heregulin-beta 1 is also known as neuregulin-1 (NRG-1) and is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family. It acts as a ligand for ErbB family receptor tyrosine kinases, and belongs to a family of structurally related polypeptide growth factors derived from alternatively spliced genes (NRG1, NRG2, NRG3, and NRG4).

Heregulin-beta 1 plays an important role during the development of the nervous system, heart, and mammary glands. It is expressed in neuronal cells, where it modulates cell growth and differentiation during development and wound healing. In vivo and in vitro studies have implicated heregulin-beta 1/ErbB signaling as crucial for multiple aspects of cardiovascular development and as protective of the heart from ischemic injury. The factor has also been shown to promote invasiveness and metastasis of breast cancer cells and to have a role in the growth and maintenance of human embryonic stem cells.

Produced in CHO cells with a predicted molecular mass of 7.5 kDa, this lyophilized product is supplied at a purity of ≥ 95% from a sterile-filtered solution in phosphate-buffered saline, with an endotoxin level of ≤ 0.2 EU/μg protein. Activity is determined by a cell proliferation assay using human MCF-7 cells, yielding a specific activity of ≥ 1 x 10^7 units/mg and an EC50 of ≤ 0.1 ng/mL. The protein shows cross-reactivity with mouse and rat. Store at -80°C; the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. To prepare, centrifuge the vial before opening and reconstitute in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting the solution down the sides of the vial; do not vortex. For research use only.
