Biological activity was assessed by the ability of the protein to promote proliferation of TF-1 cells, with cell proliferation measured after 48 hours of culture using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50, defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation reaches 50% of maximum, was 0.08 - 0.12 ng/mL in the reported assay. SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (−) conditions followed by Coomassie Blue staining indicated a predicted molecular mass of 14.6 kDa.
