Biological activity was demonstrated by its ability to promote the proliferation of BALB/c 3T3 cells in the presence of 10 μg/mL heparin, with proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50, defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which proliferation is at 50% of maximum, is less than 0.3 ng/mL. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 15.8 kDa and was visualized by SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions with Coomassie Blue staining.
