FGF-8B is described as a regulator of gastrulation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and later mesenchymal to epithelial differentiation during embryonic development [S2]. Biological activity was demonstrated by the protein's ability to promote proliferation of BALB/c 3T3 cells, quantified using a fluorometric assay method, with a reported EC50 of 1.8 ng/mL in this example [S2]. The molecule has a predicted molecular mass of 22.5 kDa, and 2 μg was resolved by SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions and visualised by Coomassie Blue staining [S2].

According to its safety data sheet, the product is a solid powder [S1] and is not considered a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) [S1].
