Description

From STEMCELL Technologies, this lyophilized, animal component–free recombinant growth factor is Human Recombinant FGF-7 (also known as Keratinocyte Growth Factor, KGF, HBGF-7, or Heparin-binding growth factor 7) expressed in E. coli. FGF-7 is described as a member of the FGF family that acts exclusively through a subset of FGF receptor isoforms expressed predominantly by epithelial cells, where it stimulates proliferation, migration, and differentiation, and participates in epithelial protection and repair both in vitro and in vivo. The protein is also reported to supplement the wound-healing properties of bioengineered skin and to play a role in the differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into endodermal pancreatic-like insulin-producing cells and thymic epithelial cells.

Manufacturer specifications: specific activity of ≥ 1.7 x 10^4 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 60 ng/mL), determined by a cell proliferation assay using 4MBr-5 cells, with an example assay EC50 of 2.5 ng/mL; purity ≥ 90%; endotoxin level ≤ 1 EU/μg protein, measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis; predicted molecular mass of 19.1 kDa; and a lyophilized, sterile-filtered formulation containing sodium phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 7.5. Cross-reactivity is reported to be species-specific.

The product is intended for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses. The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet classifies the preparation as not a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System. Recommended storage is between -20°C and -80°C; the product is stated to be stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. The Product Information Sheet provides full reconstitution instructions, including a 10% overfill to compensate for any loss of protein in precipitate, and recommends storing reconstituted stock solution for no more than 1 month at 2 - 8°C or 3 months at -80°C while avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
