Hu Recom FGF-6, ACF, 100 µg

STEMCELL Technologies supplies Human Recombinant FGF-6, an animal component-free cytokine prepared for laboratory research. Fibroblast growth factor 6 (FGF-6) is a heparin-binding member of the FGF family that regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, and function, signalling through FGF receptors 1c, 2c, and 4. It is described as a potent mitogen for fibroblasts, vascular endothelial cells, and prostate carcinoma cells, and is primarily expressed in epithelial and mesenchymal cell lineages, with reported roles in skeletal muscle development and regeneration, and in promoting chondrogenesis in embryonic somites in conjunction with TGF-β2.

The protein is expressed in E. coli and supplied as a lyophilised solid. The predicted molecular mass is 18.9 kDa, with reported purity of ≥ 95%. Specific activity is stated as ≥ 1.0 x 10^6 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 1 ng/mL) by a cell proliferation assay using NR6R-3T3 cells in the presence of 1 μg heparin; an example dataset gives an EC50 of 0.00442 ng/mL. Endotoxin is measured by kinetic LAL analysis at ≤ 1 EU/μg protein. The formulation consists of sodium phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 7.5. Cross-reactivity is reported to be species-specific, the UniProt accession is P10767, and alternative designations include HBGF-6, Heparin-binding growth factor 6, Heparin secretory-transforming protein 2, HST-2, and HSTF-2.

STEMCELL Technologies recommends storage at -20°C to -80°C; the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. The vial should be centrifuged before opening and reconstituted in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting down the sides of the vial without vortexing.
