Manufactured by STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant growth factor acts as a potent mitogen for fibroblasts, vascular endothelial cells, and prostate carcinoma cells. Biological activity was assessed by the ability to promote proliferation of NR6R-3T3 cells in the presence of 1 μg heparin, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 — defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum — was 0.00442 ng/mL in the example assay. The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 18.9 kDa, and 1 μg was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (−) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.

The product is supplied as a solid and, according to its Safety Data Sheet, is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). It is stable under normal conditions, with no special protective equipment required for routine handling.
