Hu Recom FGF-5, ACF, 1000 µg

STEMCELL Technologies offers this animal component-free, lyophilized human recombinant Fibroblast Growth Factor 5 (FGF-5), a secreted, heparin-binding member of the FGF subfamily intended for use as a laboratory reagent. FGFs possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities and are expressed during embryonic development. FGF-5 in particular is expressed in the mesenchyme, central nervous system, skeletal muscles, and hair follicles, and promotes cell differentiation and proliferation by binding FGF receptor 1 and FGF receptor 2 (FGFR1 and FGFR2). The growth factor plays an important regulatory role in skeletal muscle development and has also been identified with neurons of the limbic system, especially those of the olfactory bulb and pyramidal cells of the hippocampus (Haub & Goldfarb).

The protein is produced in E. coli and supplied as a sterile-filtered formulation of sodium phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 7.5. Purity is ≥ 95% and the predicted molecular mass is 27.7 kDa. Specific activity is ≥ 1.0 x 10^5 units/mg, with an EC50 ≤ 10 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using NR6R-3T3 cells in the presence of 1 μg heparin. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. Cross-reactivity is reported to be species-specific. Reconstitution: centrifuge the vial before opening and bring it to room temperature (15 - 25°C). Resuspend in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting the solution down the sides of the vial without vortexing, then let stand for 1 minute. A 10% overfill has been added to compensate for any loss of protein in the precipitate. Store at -20°C to -80°C; the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.
