EGF stimulates cell proliferation and differentiation in intestine, and stimulates proliferation of stem cells in the central nervous system. Biological activity was tested by the factor's ability to promote proliferation of BALB/c 3T3 cells, measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum, with the reported example showing an EC50 of 0.0459 ng/mL. For purity analysis, 1 μg of Human Recombinant EGF, ACF was resolved by SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (−) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.
