Description

A research-use recombinant growth factor supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, Human Recombinant BMP-4 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4) is a member of the highly conserved transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily. The mature protein is a disulfide-linked homodimer consisting of two 116-amino-acid residue subunits generated by proteolytic removal of the signal peptide and propeptides. It binds to type I and type II receptors on cells, leading to receptor 1 phosphorylation, Smad protein phosphorylation, and downstream transcription factor activity.

BMPs are key regulators of embryogenesis and play roles in the growth and differentiation of various cell types, including embryonic stem cells (ESCs), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), mesenchymal cells, epithelial cells, hematopoietic cells, and neuronal cells. Alternative names: BMP-2B, BMP2B1, MCOPS6, OFC11, ZYME (Accession Number P12644).

Expressed in CHO cells and supplied as a lyophilized powder from a sterile-filtered solution containing 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid. Specifications: Purity ≥ 95%; specific activity ≥ 6.7 × 10^4 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 15 ng/mL) as determined by alkaline phosphatase activity induced in ATDC-5 cells; endotoxin level ≤ 1 EU/µg protein as measured by kinetic LAL analysis. Predicted molecular mass is 13.1 kDa (monomer) or 26.2 kDa (dimer), migrating on SDS-PAGE to an apparent molecular mass of 20 kDa or 34 kDa, respectively, due to variable glycosylation. Store at -20 to -80°C; stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt. Centrifuge vial before opening and reconstitute in 10 mM sterile hydrochloric acid to at least 0.1 mg/mL; do not vortex. Products are for research use only and not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses unless otherwise stated.
