Hu Recom BAFF, 50 µg

From STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant human B cell activating factor (BAFF) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily and is expressed by monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils. It binds three receptors expressed by B cells—BAFF-R, TACI, and BCMA—and signals through the NF-kB pathway to promote B cell survival, Ig class switching, and antigen presentation. The protein also supports monocyte survival and activation, proinflammatory cytokine secretion, and differentiation into macrophages, and co-stimulates anti-CD3-mediated activation of human T cells.

Also known by the alternative names BLyS, TALL1, and TNFSF13B, it is expressed in CHO cells with a purity of > 95% and cross-reactivity in mouse. Supplied lyophilized after dialysis against phosphate-buffered saline, the protein has a predicted molecular mass of 17 kDa (UniProt accession Q9Y275), an endotoxin level of < 0.2 EU/μg protein, and a specific activity of > 5 x 10^4 units/mg, with an EC50 < 20 ng/mL determined by a cell proliferation assay using RPMI-8226 cells.
