STEMCELL Technologies supplies a laboratory reagent, Human Recombinant BAFF, which promotes B cell survival, Ig class switching, and antigen presentation. The biological activity of Human Recombinant BAFF is tested by its ability to promote mitosis of RPMI-8226 cells, with mitogenic activity measured using a fluorometric assay method; the EC50 in this example is less than 20 ng/mL. SDS-PAGE analysis under reducing and non-reducing conditions visualized with Coomassie Blue staining indicates a predicted molecular mass of 17 kDa.

The product is supplied as a solid powder. According to the manufacturer's safety data sheet, it is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), and it is stable under normal conditions. Recommended storage is in tightly closed containers kept in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place.
