Recombinant human ACE2 protein fused at the C-terminus to a human Fc tag, produced in HEK 293 mammalian cells to preserve native folding and glycosylation patterns relevant to receptor-ligand interaction studies. ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) is a type I transmembrane metallopeptidase that functions both as a negative regulator of the renin-angiotensin system and as the principal cell-surface entry receptor used by SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein. The Fc fusion improves solubility and enables purification via Protein A/G chromatography, while HEK-based expression yields a reagent suitable for viral entry inhibition assays, neutralization screening, peptide cleavage kinetics, and small-molecule inhibitor profiling. Provided by STEMCELL Technologies as a 500 ug aliquot for research use only, this protein supports binding studies with recombinant spike receptor-binding domain constructs, surface plasmon resonance workflows, and pseudovirus neutralization assays. Store lyophilized powder or working aliquots frozen at -80 °C with minimal freeze-thaw cycles; for short-term use, keep refrigerated at 4 °C. The C-terminal Fc tag enables dimerization that approximates the natural receptor orientation at the plasma membrane, making this reagent valuable for downstream applications including flow cytometry-based binding assays and immunohistochemistry of ACE2-expressing tissues.
