Hu/Ms Recom TGF-beta 3, ACF, 100 µg

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this animal component-free recombinant human cytokine, a member of the TGF-β superfamily that regulates diverse cellular phenotypes. The protein binds to serine/threonine kinase type I and II receptors and activates signal transduction through SMAD2/3 proteins, thereby influencing cell proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, and metabolism. Reported activities include enhancing glycosaminoglycan production by mesenchymal stromal cells, stimulating scar-free healing, improving glucose tolerance and adipocyte morphology, inducing proliferation of posterofrontal suture-derived mesenchymal stromal cells, and stimulating expression of fibroblast growth factors 2 and 18.

The protein is produced in E. coli with a purity of ≥ 95% and is supplied as a sterile-filtered liquid in a formulation of 10 mM acetic acid and 20% ethanol. The predicted molecular mass is 12.9 kDa for the monomer and 25.7 kDa for the dimer, and cross-reactivity has been reported in mouse, rat, pig, cow, and dog. The specific activity is ≥ 1.0 x 10^6 units/mg, with an EC50 ≤ 1 ng/mL as determined by the ability to inhibit IL-4-induced HT-2 cell proliferation; in one example assay the EC50 was 0.038 ng/mL. The endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The product should be stored at 2 – 8 °C, is stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt, should not be frozen, and the vial should be centrifuged before opening and not vortexed.

According to the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet, the product is a liquid and is not considered a hazardous substance or mixture according to the GHS or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200); the mixture contains 20% ethyl alcohol (CAS 64-17-5) and is noted as harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. The manufacturer's quality management system is certified to ISO 13485, and the product is for research use only.
