Hu/Ms Recom GDF-11, 20 µg

GDF-11 is a recombinant human/mouse growth factor that regulates development of the olfactory system, retina, and pancreas, as well as anterior/posterior patterning of the axial skeleton. The biological activity of this STEMCELL Technologies product was tested by its ability to inhibit alkaline phosphatase production in ATDC-5 cells, with the EC50 defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which alkaline phosphatase activity is at 50% of maximum. In the reported assay, the EC50 was 2.63 ng/mL.

Purity was assessed by resolving 1 μg of the protein with SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining. Supplied lyophilized and purified, the protein is suitable for small-scale experiments and pilot studies. Reported applications include developmental and regenerative biology assays, signaling pathway analysis, and in vitro differentiation studies, with users advised to titrate to determine effective working concentrations.

For handling, the lyophilized product should be stored at ≤ -20 °C and reconstituted per the manufacturer's recommendations, with working stocks aliquoted to minimize activity loss. Use of sterile, low-protein-binding tubes and recommended buffers is advised for reconstitution and storage.
