STEMCELL Technologies provides this Human/Mouse Recombinant GDF-11 for research use. The growth factor regulates the development of the olfactory system, retina, and pancreas, and contributes to anterior/posterior patterning of the axial skeleton.

Bioactivity is assessed by the protein's ability to inhibit alkaline phosphatase production in ATDC-5 cells, with inhibition quantified using a fluorometric assay. The EC50 — defined as the effective concentration at which alkaline phosphatase activity is at 50% of maximum — is 2.63 ng/mL. For purity analysis, 1 μg of the recombinant protein is resolved by SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions and visualized with Coomassie Blue staining.
