STEMCELL Technologies offers this animal component-free recombinant Activin A protein for use as a laboratory reagent. According to the manufacturer, activins regulate a variety of functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, and metabolism.

The biological activity of Human/Mouse Recombinant Activin A, ACF was tested by its ability to inhibit proliferation of MPC-11 cells. Inhibition of cell proliferation was measured after 66 hours of culture using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation inhibition is at 50% of maximum. The EC50 in the reported assay is 0.436 ng/mL. For purity assessment, 1 μg of the protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.

The product is supplied as a solid powder and is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200).
