Produced by STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant human interferon-alpha 1 (IFNA1), also known as interferon alphaD, is a member of the type I interferon cytokine family. The protein is expressed with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus and has a predicted molecular mass of 20.8 kDa. Type I interferons signal through the interferon-alpha receptor (IFNAR), composed of IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 subunits, to activate JAK-STAT signaling. Interferon-alpha has documented antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus and human immunodeficiency virus, and is also used in the treatment of various cancers.

Biological activity is determined using a WISH cell viability assay with vesicular stomatitis virus, yielding an EC50 ≤ 80 pg/mL, and the purity is ≥ 92%. The product is supplied as a lyophilized preparation from sterile phosphate-buffered saline (pH 7.4), with trehalose (5%), mannitol (5%), and 0.01% TWEEN 80 added as protectants before lyophilization. The expression source is Pichia pastoris. The product should be stored at -20 to -80°C and is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.
