EZ1 DNA Investigator Kit (48)

QIAGEN's EZ1&2 DNA Investigator Kit (renamed from EZ1 DNA Investigator Kit in autumn 2021) automates purification of genomic DNA from forensic and human identity samples. The kit uses silica-coated magnetic-particle technology and runs on the EZ2 Connect Fx (1–24 samples per run), EZ1 Advanced XL (1–14 samples per run), EZ1 Advanced (1–6 samples per run), and BioRobot EZ1 (1–6 samples per run). Applications include forensics, kinship or paternity testing, and disaster victim identification.

Standard yields are 150–250 ng, with STR analysis showing recovery of 79% of the potential DNA yield and no dropouts (<50 relative fluorescent units for any of the 8 alleles investigated). A large-volume protocol supports sample volumes up to 500 µl, with elution volumes of 50–200 µl; the EZ2 offers optional reduced elution volumes of 20–30 µl. An optional "tip dance" protocol enables direct processing of solid materials such as swabs, fabrics, blood discs, and cigarette butts in the sample tube without prior centrifugation. Carrier RNA is included to enhance binding of low amounts of DNA (<1 ng) to the magnetic-particle silica surface, without interfering with downstream STR analysis.

Prefilled, sealed reagent cartridges and an automatic sensor-controlled instrument door lock reduce the risk of contamination and human error during setup. Each lot is tested against predetermined specifications under QIAGEN's ISO-certified Quality Management System, and the kit meets ISO 18385 requirements. Purified DNA is suited for downstream use in PCR, real-time RT-PCR, genotyping, quantitative PCR, and STR analysis.
