EZ1 Advanced DNA Bacteria Card

This QIAGEN protocol card is designed for automated extraction of bacterial DNA on the EZ1 Advanced system. Formulated to handle microbial samples, including tougher cell walls, it produces DNA suitable for culture-independent diagnostics, PCR and sequencing. The card is used in combination with the EZ1 DNA Tissue Kit and is suited to processing human samples, swabs, biopsies, and bacterial cultures.

Inserted into the instrument's card slot, the card specifies a choice of purification protocols without any manual data entry. EZ1 Advanced instruments process 1–6 samples per run in less than 20 minutes, while the EZ1 Advanced XL handles 1–14 samples per run in the same time. Processing uses prefilled, foil-sealed reagent cartridges that remain sealed until the instrument door is closed and the protocol run started, helping reduce the risk of contamination during setup. Bar code reading enables complete tracking of samples and reagents, with reagent identification and lot numbers logged together with the expiration date.

Walkaway automation means all processing steps — from piercing reagent cartridges to elution of pure nucleic acids — are performed by the workstation. A separate computer is not required for operation, and specialized user training is not needed. The workstation can be placed in a safety or laminar flow cabinet, and a sensor ensures the workstation door remains closed during sample preparation.
